Nature of the Client Relationship

Clarity Before Commitment provides structured coaching intended to improve the quality of a client’s thinking and decision-making in relation to arranged marriage and significant relationship decisions.

The relationship between Raj Mehta and the client is a coaching and decision-support relationship.

Its purpose is to help the client:

  • understand their situation more clearly;
  • distinguish facts from assumptions and emotional reactions;
  • identify what information is known, missing or requires verification;
  • examine expectations, preferences and non-negotiables;
  • identify relevant patterns in communication and behaviour;
  • consider reasonable options and their possible consequences;
  • communicate more clearly with prospective matches and family members;
  • reduce avoidable confusion and premature emotional investment; and
  • make better-informed marriage and relationship decisions.

The intended outcome of Clarity Coaching is improved decision-making.

The outcome is not a particular match, engagement, marriage, reconciliation or relationship result.

Raj’s Role

Raj’s role is to provide perspective, structure, observations, questions, frameworks and practical guidance based upon the information available.

Raj may:

  • challenge assumptions;
  • point out inconsistencies;
  • identify patterns;
  • identify information that appears missing;
  • suggest questions that may be useful to ask;
  • recommend matters that may deserve verification;
  • discuss potential consequences of different options;
  • suggest that a client pause, communicate, observe, verify, advance or reconsider a situation;
  • provide his own reasoned assessment of the situation; and
  • communicate directly where he believes the client may be overlooking an important issue.

Guidance does not require Raj to remain neutral between every possible interpretation of a situation.

Raj may express a clear view based on the information presented.

However, such a view remains coaching guidance and does not become a factual certification about another person or a decision made on behalf of the client.

The Client’s Role

The client’s role is to provide reasonably accurate and relevant information, participate honestly in the coaching process, consider the guidance provided and make their own decisions.

The client remains responsible for:

  • deciding whether to continue or discontinue communication with a prospective match;
  • deciding whether and how to verify information;
  • deciding whether to meet, advance, commit, become engaged or marry;
  • deciding how to respond to family expectations;
  • deciding whether to take financial, legal or other significant actions; and
  • obtaining qualified professional advice where appropriate.

A client is free to disagree with Raj’s assessment or choose a different course of action.

Payment for coaching does not transfer responsibility for the client’s decisions to Raj.

Guidance Is Situation-Specific

Clarity Coaching may be highly specific to the client’s individual circumstances.

Raj may discuss particular conversations, messages, behaviours, family circumstances, expectations, financial discussions, prospective matches or decision points shared by the client.

This does not mean that Raj independently knows all facts surrounding the situation.

Guidance is necessarily based upon:

  1. the information provided by the client;
  2. information reasonably available during the coaching process; and
  3. the context understood at that time.

If important information is incomplete, inaccurate, misunderstood or later changes, the assessment or guidance may also change.

A previous observation should therefore not be treated as permanently applicable where circumstances have materially changed.

Coaching Is Not Decision Delegation

A client may ask Raj:

  • “What do you think?”
  • “What would you observe here?”
  • “Does this make sense?”
  • “What am I missing?”
  • “Would you continue?”
  • “What should I verify?”
  • “What would be the sensible next step?”

Raj may answer those questions directly.

However, coaching is not a mechanism for transferring ownership of a marriage decision to Raj.

Statements such as:

  • “I followed Raj’s advice”;
  • “Raj thought this was a good match”; or
  • “Raj suggested I continue”

do not mean that Raj accepted responsibility for the eventual outcome.

The client retains final authority over their life and decisions.

No Control Over Third Parties

Raj has no control over the behaviour, representations, intentions or future actions of:

  • prospective matches;
  • spouses;
  • parents;
  • relatives;
  • matrimonial platforms;
  • employers;
  • professionals;
  • service providers; or
  • any other third party.

A recommendation about how to approach another person does not guarantee how that person will respond.

Access to Raj

The level of access to Raj depends upon the specific service purchased.

Different services may include different combinations of:

  • scheduled coaching sessions;
  • limited follow-up;
  • communication review;
  • message guidance;
  • document or biodata review;
  • assessment interpretation;
  • ongoing guidance; or
  • other support expressly described at the time of purchase.

Purchasing one service does not automatically include benefits belonging to another service.

Unless expressly included in the purchased service:

  • there is no entitlement to unlimited messaging;
  • there is no entitlement to immediate responses;
  • there is no entitlement to continuous access to Raj;
  • there is no entitlement to emergency support;
  • there is no entitlement to ongoing review of every prospective match; and
  • the coaching relationship does not continue indefinitely after completion of the purchased service.

Any ongoing program or package will be governed by the scope communicated for that program.

Communication Outside Scheduled Sessions

Where follow-up communication is included in a purchased service, it is intended to support the coaching process and remains subject to reasonable limits.

Messages sent through WhatsApp, email, CRM, social media or another communication channel do not automatically create a new coaching session or expand the scope of the service.

Raj may request that a matter requiring substantial discussion be addressed through a booked session rather than through informal messaging.

Response times may vary and coaching communications should never be treated as an emergency-response service.

Boundaries of the Relationship

The relationship is professional but may be conversational, direct and personal in style.

Warmth, availability, familiarity or informal communication should not be interpreted as creating:

  • friendship obligations;
  • family obligations;
  • fiduciary duties;
  • unlimited personal access;
  • dependency;
  • representation of the client in dealings with other people; or
  • responsibility for managing the client’s life.

Raj may maintain reasonable professional boundaries even where a coaching relationship has continued for a significant period.

Ending the Coaching Relationship

Either Raj or the client may decide that coaching should end.

A client may stop using the service at any time, subject to the applicable cancellation, package and refund terms.

Raj may decline to continue coaching where he reasonably believes that:

  • the client’s needs fall outside the scope of Clarity Coaching;
  • professional legal, medical, mental-health, financial or other specialist assistance is more appropriate;
  • the client expects Raj to make decisions on their behalf;
  • the client is repeatedly seeking certainty that cannot reasonably be provided;
  • the relationship has developed into unhealthy dependency;
  • communications become abusive, threatening or inappropriate;
  • continuing the service may create a safety or legal concern; or
  • Raj reasonably concludes that continued coaching would not be useful.

Ending coaching does not mean that either party has failed.

It means that the particular coaching relationship has reached its reasonable boundary.

No Continuing Duty After Completion

Once the purchased service has been completed or the coaching relationship has ended, Raj has no continuing duty to monitor:

  • the client’s marriage process;
  • the client’s emotional state;
  • the conduct of a prospective match;
  • changes in the client’s circumstances; or
  • developments occurring after the final interaction.

If circumstances change materially, the client may choose to book another appropriate service.

Independence of the Client

The purpose of Clarity Coaching is ultimately to make the client more capable of making their own decisions, not increasingly dependent upon Raj.

A successful coaching relationship should improve the client’s ability to:

  • observe clearly;
  • ask better questions;
  • verify what matters;
  • recognise uncertainty;
  • tolerate a “not yet”;
  • recognise when information is insufficient;
  • make decisions with greater awareness; and
  • take responsibility for those decisions.

The coaching relationship therefore exists to strengthen independent judgement rather than replace it.
